The Adorable Five, in fact !

Enid Blyton introduced me to the world of wonderful stories, magic and more so ’’English’’. I started reading her books from the age of 9. I even maintained an entire list of her books and ticked off the ones I read. I just loved her!!

Her Famous Five range of books was a good favourite of mine. Reading the five (Julian, Dick, George and Anne with dear Timmy) solve mysteries, my mind would crave for those adventures. I remember forming a little group of friends and act as if we were out on spying and solving mysteries. I remember packing up idlis and going on picnics. There I would pretend I was eating muffins!!!

Many years back, Doordarshan were telecasting the Famous Five serials. It was indeed great to see the story book characters personified. But any day I prefer the books to the televised serials.

One more thing that I must mention is that the books helped improve my language. I got to know more new words and thus enriched my vocabulary.

Even today, I love to read these books. They are surely a must read for children from 9 years onwards. I do recommend them wholesomely.
