This book was resting in my "to-read" list for quite some time and this time when I ordered books, I ordered this too. The title is captivating enough to make you at least check it. Going by the reviews too, it sounded like a good thriller.
Rachel takes the same train to work everyday. At a particular signal, she keeps noticing a house everyday and the residents too. Then one day, Megan, the lady living in that house disappears and the mystery begins. The story revolves around Rachel, Megan and Anna, her ex’s present wife and also Tom, her ex.
The story is made into parts and the narration continues with the point-of-view of one lady at a time, with Rachel dominating the first two thirds of the book. Other two had a limited role. It was gripping me well. And then, when the story got divided into almost equal parts among the three, it was difficult keeping track who’s story is being told. I had to keep going back to check the date and time that was mentioned in the beginning of different parts. It was like present and past going in parallel. And also I could guess the culprit there, even before the ending.
Rachel was an alcoholic person and she had blackouts, many a times. In the entire novel she only had one blackout which was mentioned again and again throughout the book. And the entire story depended on that "blackout". Streeetcheddd!
The novel is made like a staged act. And it gave detailed picturization of the stage, the setup for the story, the locations. Except that nothing seemed interesting to continue the book with enthusiasm.
