I have had the opportunity to read the books as well as see the film, and both are excellent. The book does detail a few points the film cannot make, but on the whole quite similar storylines.
The main character is John Coffey, like coffee, just spelt difrent and he is a huge giant, and on looks alone does look as though he could easily murder the two little girls he is serving time for. You discover he has many hidden..well shall we say talents? you need to see to understand.
Over the next hour we learn the warden played by Tom Hanks, has a very serious infection affecting his waterworks, and we meet Percy, the worst jailer you would come across, who obviously has relatives in high places, the rest are kind and likeable.
The other inmates are a french man, who ends up with a mouse, very well written into the film and a comical piece of action too, and we are soon introduced to a very bad young kid, with a fowl mouth and temper, but as you may imagine, he is alot more involved than you first think.
The film plods along quite nicely introducing you to life on death row, and the characters involved, a few strange healings and the like, I will not go into too much detail, I do not want to ruin the film.
You are also shown the mock send up of a man to death row, to enable they get it right on the day, and you learn a little too much detail, but this becomes apparent why it was so fully explained later on too.
The film is full of strong emotion and it seems to happen so quick, it is very well acted and has plenty of twists, that you didnt see coming. We all cried at the end and I urge you to see the film if you have not already.
As I explained I did not want to tell you too much about the film so you may experience the surprises yourself. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
