This movie was great. I already knew the story line because I had read the books, yet the movie still evoked every emotion within me. This is a very thought provoking and moving story. Not to mention that there a couple of funny moments in the film.

I have to admit that I might be bias because I am a huge Stephen King fan and I love every book he ever wrote. Sometimes however, I don’t feel that the story comes across well when put on film. This is not one of those times.

Tom Hanks played a wonderful Paul. I couldn’t think of a better actor for that part. Duncan was everything I had imagined John to be. I think that casting was done very well and that makes a huge difference in a movie.

There wasn’t a moment during the three hour movie that I felt it was slow or I was bored. In fact I was very surprised at the end of the movie to find that it actually was a three hour movie. I don’t want to give any details in case there is someone who hasn’t read the book, but if you did read the series of books called the green mile then you will see that there wasn’t any important details missed in the movie like sometimes happens. It was great. I am going to go out and buy the movie now.

The story is of a large, african american man who is accused of killing two young girls. When found holding the dead girls he went willingly with the officers. He was sentenced and ends up on death row. The man in charge there is played by Tom Hanks. While the story goes on you realize how gentle John is (the accused killer). We also learn about other characters in the story. There is the guard with too much of an ego who continues to cause problems, the little mouse who can do tricks, and also the family friend who is in need of medical help but the doctors have said there is nothing that can be done.

Before long it becomes apparent that John isn’t guilty of the crime, possesses magical powers of healing, and will be put to death anyway. With the help of other guards John is taken out of the prison and to the family friend whom he saves from her illness. However, saving the woman makes him ill. It is a really sad story but inspirational at the same time. All along the only thing John was doing with the little girls was trying to use his powers to save them but it had been too late.

Be advised that this movie is not for children and there is a loud loving making scene. There are also scenes that show use of the electric chair.
