I have stayed in many 3+ star hotels in India, US and few other countries but this 10 day stay in The HHI Select was the worst experience. Sorry for the long one, just wanted to speak my experience.
Firstly, it is not worth the money. They charge you 3000+ for a night and the facilities are not that good. Before you take the room, there is full promises on amenities available and as soon as you book it, most of the things are not as promised. I had problem with the washbasin in my bathroom. It was leaking and messing up the entire bathroom in a way that I cant step into it w/o my slippers. I had complained about it but no response. All 10 days I stayed in that mess.
Secondly the double standards of the guys working in reception. Whenever I asked them something, they use to stare at me as though I am stealing something from them. In my experience in all the 3 star hotels I had stayed, a room with queen bed allowed to stay maximum two guests and the price does not change even if you stay alone. These guys charge 3000+ for one person for the room and for the extra person they charge another 1000+. If this is the rules of the hotels all over India, I am ok with it paying extra, but the way that guy at the reception stared at me when he said that he is going to charge me extra, irked me the most. Guys the rule that you have in this hotel(ie charging extra for second person for room which is already for two ppl) is not the same across the globe. You should be in a position to explain your rules to your guests in that case not stare at them as though they are trying to steal the 55inch tv in your hallway. And then while checking out, they were offering a drop for the guests. When I also requested, he politely said yes. But slowly he dragged all the luggage outside to the gate and dropped everything there and told that they dont have a vehicle(when I can see 2 of his vehicles standing there to drop their guests). Why couldnt you tell that in the reception. Why do you have to act as though you are polite with your guests and treat them in this manner outside.
Thirdly the complimentary breakfast. Again my experience was for the room with queen bed(where 2 can stay) there are 2 complimentary breakfast, but they charged extra 300 Rs each for my wife and 1yr old(who came to visit me for one day). I am ok to pay extra but cannot tolerate this rude attitude(I mean the staring when you say you are going to charge more) it makes your guest feel very uncomfortable and embarassing. They were trying to charge extra Rs1000 for 3 days telling that my wife stayed here for 3days. I had to struggle with them to make them understand that she stayed only for a day.
Lastly, I ordered 2 dishes for dinner. One starter and a gravy which he said comes with rice. When it was delivered to the room, I got one starter and 2 gravy items and no rice. When I told them what am I going to do with 2 gravy without rice he bluntly told me that he has already charged and cannot take it back and if I need rice he will charge me extra in a separate bill. Guys if you make anything extra by mistake, dont put the blame on the customer and make them responsible to pay for it. If it is your mistake please have the guts to take up the responsibility.
If not for the cheap attitude of the staffs, it would have been a great experience. I would have given 3 stars, but I was so irked by their attitude when I checked out which forced me to give only 1 star.
To keep it short, its not worth for the money. A 3 star hotel with 1 star experience. You get rooms for Rs 1000 for this type of experience.
