The Hindustan Times is a good newspaper. Its news coverage is wide and reporting is reliable. Unfortunately, its reach is limited to the Delhi and surrounding areas, and in that sense it is only a regional, north Indian newspaper contrary to its claim as a national newspaper.
I remember someone interviewing me some time ago – an interview to which I had no access. It was only recently, while searching for some material on web sites that I happened to see what was reproduced from the interview.
While what Vir Sanghvi writes makes sense, though often also nonsense, Kushwant Singh should not have found a place in The Hindustan Times as a columnist. He is an all-time bore among all the English writers I know, and all that he can do is titillate. His presence is a minus point for the newspaper.
The Hindustan Times web site is good, that too with Archives. But what is lacking in it, if I remember right, is a search button. Its presence would be very useful to those searching for news, views and events which are not readily and easily available other than from web sites.
I wonder why The Hindustan Times and for that matter a number of other newspapers and magazines publish photographs of columnists. Seeing the same photos everyday, particularly those of persons like Kushwant Singh may have dampening effect on the readers.
