I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. When I saw the trailer , I was expecting it to suck. However, Irfaan pulled off a very sophisticated and cold hit-man character, at least for the first half of the film. Emraan also did well as the nervous cab driver who becomes Irfaans unwitting accomplice. Its great to see that Emraan can do more than a serial kisser type role. Emraan gives, in my opinion, a great dramatic performance in this movie.
I must say the film is in the same league as others film from Bhatt camp. It tells the story of Emraan Hasmi, a cab driver with dreams of making it big.Hes a man whos bullied by his mother, who works a lousy job . Yet despite this he has ambition and a plan to start a business.
One night he picks up and unusual customer, Irfaan Khan. Irfaan asks Emraan to stick with him through the night as he has multiple stops to make, he even offers him a substantial sum of money in return for Emraans efforts.
What Emraan doesnt know is that these arent just ordinary stops. He is soon wishing he hadnt picked Irfaan up as things turn tricky.
The pace of the film works for the most part with a few small dry spots. In the end, I think The killer works very very well on the entertainment level. This is movie about two people with different life perspectives meeting in one night. That doesnt mean that this is some philosophy drama, there is plenty of good action. Except good directing, it would be a shame not to mention acting.
Irfaan plays this evil character with a lot of depth and complexity. You start to see that he is actually very warped and evil. Emraans character starts to wonder just how psycho this person is and you can tell he realizes this situation is getting worse and worse.
Nisha Kothari is one who rides with Emraan before Irfaan. She and Emraan flirt and it creates a very interesting plot twist. The guy who played don was so good in his role
Unfortunately, by about three quarters of the way through the movie, the characters start to, well, change. Irfaans character in particular loses much of the cool that was so appealing. What we are left with by the end of the movie is a clichéd good guy / bad guy chase scene. But dont let this deter you from seeing the movie.
Last, the cinematography in this movie is beautiful. Everything takes place at night and most of the movie is outside, with the main characters in the cab and ranges from high up shots of the brightly lit Dubai city to close up facial shots, all accompanied to appropriate music.. I found the movie to be visually stunning.
All in all This isnt an edge of your seat thriller. You wont be biting your nails wondering what is going to happen next. But it is a lot of fun.
