Tolkiens Lord of the Rings is a cinematic wonder. The scenery was grand and breathtaking. The action was quick and exciting. The characters were real and believable.
As I watched it I felt connected to the characters and I was emotionally attached to them and their plight. I loved seeing Frodo and Gandalf on the screen, larger than life (as they should have been). This film was unlike most of the cheesy, pop culture fantasy turds(see my review of Dungeons & Dragons movie) Hollywood is plopping out. This one is timeless. It is the type of movies that you show your children when they are old enough to understand the concepts of good and evil. It teaches that even the smallest person can have an effect on the world.
I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of the trilogy and will rush to see it when it comes out.
That being said, I cant just have glowing remarks for anything (not my style). So my only criticism is: The fellow who played Elrond (his name eludes me) was the same actor who played the main agent in The Matrix and I couldnt hear him speak without hearing him say in his patented monotone Mr. Anderson. I think either casting needed to look into a different actor or (whatever his name is) should try to tone down the dramatic speech.
I recommend this movie to all. Even those who normally dislike fantasy (like my wife) love it.
See it today!
