Lords Central has it all; it is relatively expensive compared to other nearby hotels, some may say a bit run down (I say characterful and homely) but the stupendous views, courteous, friendly and consistently warm welcome make the place a joy to visit. It is old colonnial style bungalows, well kept and clean with dinning room and library.
Try to get the rooms facing the view over the very clean pool across to the green hills opposite, they are worth the extra money . The rooms at the back of the property dont have the breath taking views but you can always walk the short distance to take them in. https://matheranhotels.com/
Beer and snacks are available whenever you want. I personally did not like having to pay for the all inclusive food as I only ever took breakfast there.
I was told it would be foreigners only (ie me!) but I was the only westerner there and it was full of Indian families enjoying the ambience.
Try the Royal Restaurant MG Road green pea soup is unbelieveable. Had the best biryani ever at the Khans Sofa Bar opposite (no booze sold).
Watch out for horses, recommend Spiderman as he Turns, stops, trots, canters and goes backwards - ON COMMAND!
