Wow...The Wachowski brothers have pulled out a rabbit outta the hat! The mere concept of The Matrix is inherently unrevealing, it’s obscure. Yet, its glorious presentation in the movie is worth all credit.
The movie grips the viewers imagination from the very beginning. Streams of Green coloured digits roll down the screen leaving the viewer awestruck. He is quickly transformed into a state of “What is happening? Why so? When are the answers coming? “At this juncture I would like to highlight the conversation of Agent Smith with Thomas A Anderson. This sequence is highly captivating with Agent Smiths dialogue delivery being unmatched and revealing his professionalism. This is followed by the introduction of Morpheus, the father figure, the initiator responsible for letting Neo come to grips with his own identity.
Soon, Neo discovers the real bizarre and complex world. He feels fish out of water but slowly led into the right path by Morpheus. His fighting skills are brought out and exposed by Morpheus. This fight sequence in virtual reality is truly mind blowing (Here I would like to draw a comparison with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Though both films rely heavily on martial arts, the fights in The Matrix are a treat to the viewers eyes rather than the unrealistic fights on the tree tops! ) One of the crew members Cipher commits treachery leading to the forthcoming events. Neo is inevitably forced to reenter the Matrix, having had to make a choice of either himself or Morpheus, Neo decides to relieve Morpheus who is in the custody of the all powerful agents holding him in a maximum security enclosure. The ensuing gun fight in the lounge is riveting. Although he succeeds, he is soon left alone, having to fight the infallible, lightning quick agent. What follows is one of the most dramatic fight sequences branded as the Subway Fight .
Subsequently Neo is empowered by the three agents and Agent Smith blazes away on Neo with his gun at point blank range. Neo falls to his feet hopelessly. The audience is left in utter dismay and total silence befalls much like a Tendulkar dismissal, but the feelings are much much intense. Trinity, Neos counterpart rejuvenates him with passion, leading to his comeback. Realising this, the agents fire indiscriminately. But lo! Neo having realised his potential, stops the bullets by a mere gesture of his hands. The background music, the fervor of the moment is unparalleled. Agent Smith is ripped apart and being a mute witness to the awesome power of the self-realised NEO, the other two agents flee.
In the end, Neo makes a phone call signaling an end to the rule of the Matrix, signifying a world without rules or regulations, without distances or boundaries.
This in my opinion is one of the all time greatest movies for its sheer hold on the viewer, its everlasting suspense, the enormity of the fights, the realism portrayed using digital mastery.
To back this all up, the concept of The Matrix is truly magnificent.
