Well I watched this film towards the high recommendations of some friends of mine;but if I come across them they will really suffer for what they have done!!
First, what is this film’s type?Adventure?Romantic?Comedy??Well of course you will say that all of them could be the type together;but I think this film could not be included in any of these topics.Despite a little few good points and scenes this one gave nothing to the viewer;no fun, no lessons, no feelings, no excitement...
The film is about Jerry Webach’s(Brad Pitt) struggle between his girlfriend Samantha(Julia Roberts) and his boss who gives him a hazardous task.According to this mission Jerry will enter Mexica find a boy in a bar who owns a pistol very precious, named ’’Mexican’’ and bring them both back to US to his boss.As his girlfriend objects this roughly and tells him to make a selection between her and his job, because of the life threatening situation of refusing the job, Jerry leaves for Mexico, having a hard quarrel with Sam before leaving.After his arrival in Mexico Sam becomes kidnapped by a killer who also wants the Mexican...Anyway, after a whole lot of boring events, Jerry acquires the pistol, but the boy who owns it gets killed by a bullet fired accidentally in a festival, rescues Sam and gives the pistol to it’s real owners who are Mexican and who are descendants of the man that produced the gun.Jerry’s boss gets killed by Sam while trying to kill Jerry;and happy ending...
This is the story;but as not being an attractive and fascinating film, this one has a few points that should be mentioned...The thing which draw my attention first was about the killer who had kidnapped Sam.Being a huge guy and a professional killer, surprisingly we learn that this chap is a gay!!Now this is not the real interesting point;the more interesting thing is that the film almost ’’praises’’ the guy’s gay character.A friendship occurs between Sam and his gay killer and Sam shows great tolerance to him about being gay and encourages him to build a relationship with another gay they meet while travelling.I know gay people are also humanbeings and everyone is responsible of their own choices but was it really so necessary to mention this ’’gay’’ theme so much??
The first pozitive detail was the main question of the film and the answer given to it:’’When do u forsake the one u love very much but experiencing much problems??’’.As Sam and Jerry have a hard quarrel and Sam decides to abandon him she cant do this and follows him all the way to Mexico in case to save him from dangers.Jerry does his best to reach Sam when he hears that she is in the hands of the killer and they both give the answer ’’never’’ to the theme question.
The inventor of the question is, in the film, is the gay killer and before asking this one to Sam he tells one of his experiences that he could never forget;and according to me this is the most impressive scene and dialog of the film...He says:’’I have killed many people until today.The ones who had experienced love in their life span died easily and less suffering knowing that they left someone behind who cares about them and will cry for him.Conversely, the others who never tasted love, had a more suffering death and death came harder.’’Well I dont know if it’s true or not but this was an original point of view that added an interesting point of view to love affair...
Julia was the same we used to see her.Her performance was good but because of the movie’s dull character, her performance faded away...The Samantha character had fitted Julia with resemblance to her previous acted characters.Brad Pitt didnt have a colourful and attractive character which would make him perform a great performance;according to me he was near to ordinary in this film.
Taken as a whole, if Roberts and Pitt were not involved in the film certainly fewer and fewer were going to watch this film especially after the negative comments made on this film.Giving nothing to the viewer this one could be watched only if nothing better could be found to do...Hey Julia please go back to your performance in ’’Dying Young’’!!
