Got a SE W710 from Mobile Store Velacherry recently! and I have to confess, with embarrassment, that I felt like a foolish fly rushing into a spiders trap almost immediately after I had bought it!!
Well, every sales has to have a decent gimmick to rope-in the crowd, am sure! But this is the very first time I got beaten by the gambler in me! :-) Mobile store was advertising that they were giving a sure shot price worth Rs.5000 on every mobile!! (Yes, even the ones that cost less than 2K!! 5000 > 2000?! Duh.. shouldn’t this simple math alerted, you big dumbo, you might ask.. but I guess I am a gullible big fool!!) Hey, they had a cute scratch card and everything!! How could I resist J
Well, to make a long story short (or rather.. a long review short :-) ) I bought the mobile for Rs.10, 500 thinking that I’ll get 5K back (in kind) which costs 10K in Univercel, next door! and guess what I got.. a 3/4 nights stay at a 3 start hotel!! But with a page long "conditions apply" that made it unusable and sure enough I decided that it was a crappy gift certificate and threw that in a crappy dustbin in a crappy mood!! The funny thing though is that, every customer who bought a mobile in the one hour that I spent there, (25 or so mobile buyer! I guess I wasn’t the only one taken in, got exactly the very same option in his scratch card!! :-( But somehow, that fact made me strangely happy!! J
I was so overcome by buyers-remorse, that I had to down my sorrows in beer that evening!! ;-) The only consolation was that the mobile is a decent piece of electronic manufacturing..
Moral of the story? DO NOT BE FOOLED BY CORPORATE GIMMICKS, MAKEUP YOUR OWN DAMN MIND WHEN BUYING!
