“The Mummy Returns” – PG-13 – New This Week to Video/DVD
In this sequel, more than one Mummy comes back to haunt Rick and Evie.
Rick and Evie (Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz) are still consumed with ancient artifacts and the ancient times. The movie starts 10 years after its predecessor, “The Mummy” and Rick and Evie are now married and have a son, Alex (Freddie Boath).
After finding the tomb of The Scorpion King (The Rock), they awake evil. The story goes that 5000 years ago The Scorpion King wanted to beat his enemy and offered his soul to Dark One. But when the task was done, the Dark One took him into an eternal Hell. His remains wait there to be brought back to life.
Evie finds the Scorpion Kings bracelet and takes it from the tomb. The people from the City of the Dead want the bracelet and proceed to go after Rick and his family. In the meantime, the people of the City of the Dead awaken Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), their leader. Imhotep was the evil mummy that Rick and Evie fought in the original “Mummy.”
Imhotep wants to kill the Scorpion King, everyone is after the bracelet and Rick and his gang are on the run. Ardeth (Oded Fehr) also returns to this sequel to help Rick and Evie defeat Evil. But when the bracelet gets stuck on their son’s arm, it can only mean danger for them all!
Stephen Sommers wrote and directed “The Mummy Returns.” He is also responsible for writing “The Mummy.” He did an excellent job with both movies. They were interesting, comical and very entertaining. He is now in production with his next film titled “The Scorpion King.”
Brendan Fraser was sensational AGAIN! He has the ability to play so many different kinds of characters and he succeeds in them all. This movie was no exception. The same can be said for his costar Rachel Weisz. She is interesting, beautiful and talented. They make an excellent on-screen couple. My favorite surprise in this movie was the return character of Ardeth. Oded Fehr did such a fantastic job in both of the “Mummy” movies that he has become my new actor to watch. You can only imagine my delight when I found out he was starring in a new TV series, UC: Undercover. Watch for this one!
I love my romantic comedies, BUT I also love a good adventure that has a great cast. This movie had them both. I highly recommend this movie!
Enjoy!
