I remember when this movie came out. I wasnt that interested, but the fact that Jim Carrey was in it made me overlook my doubts. This movie BLEW ME AWAY!!!! The plot was so thought out and inventive that I coouldnt look away(well maybe I did once or twice).
Jim Carrey plays Walter Sparrow, whos just some ordinary dogcatcher who gets caught up in the number 23 and the enigma behind it. His wife Agatha Sparrow, who is played by Virginia Madsen, introduces him to the book(The Number 23) after finding it in some bookshop. Anyway, Jim Carrey played this role to perfection! Constantly keeping you guessing on whats going to happen next. All of the acting was good, but Jim Carreys performance definetly stood out as exceptional!
The plot is what makes the movie great. I know that last statement should be common sense but most movies today are more geared toward mindless comedy and needless sexual scenes. Not that I dont enjoy both of those, but they dont make great movies. The Number 23 never gets boring. It always finds ways to grab your attention just as it begins to fade. Theres a turn around every corner, and the story takes you to a place where you never thought it would.
The ending makes the movie, so if you start to watch it and have your doubts, at least finish it to get the complete experience. So many people are saying that Jim Carrey cant play serious roles and im baffled by this to the point of wandering if these people actually like good movies or just a bunch of mindless filler with a catchy name.
It all comes down to what kind of movies you like, but The Number 23 is definetly worth a watch if you enjoy movies that make you think, but not too hard of course.
