I have never read the novel on which the movie is based but I have definitely added it to my wish list as regards reading goes in the very near future. The film is brilliantly done and definitely deserves a watch. The way the story unfolds may not allow a second watch but one watch is more than recommended, especially for those look for movies that make you think and not simply entertain. The life of Hitler, the Second World War (WW2) and the SS(Secret Service) have always fascinated me and this is why this film was especially interesting in my case. For those of you who arent interested in the above-mentioned subjects, the movie, I have a feeling; will get you in the swing of the same. To give you a background of the situation, which has little or no influence on the movie, Hitler was the man who brought Germany to the threshold of being the supreme power in the world through military dominance. Considering Hitlers start, it was no mean feat and what helped him to get so far was his iron gloved control and creation of German systems and officials. Here is where the SS came in. The SS was Hitler’s was prized possession. They consisted of a bunch of individuals who would carry out any and every order the “Fuhrer” would issue. This movie starts long after the WW2 was over. Hitler was gone and the SS was an organization being hunted down to be prosecuted for their war- crimes. It starts with the diary of a dead man who talked about his experiences in a concentration camp. It carries forth the hope and desire that someone would take up his unfinished business; a pledge that he would bring the people responsible for his pain to justice. This diary finds it’s way into the hands of a journalist who takes a clearly more than just normal journalistic interest in the diary’s contents. Why does he do so? What exactly is Odessa? These and several other questions are what carries the film forward through a racy and thrilling two hours. Watch it and find out for yourself.
