The most eco-friendly hotel in the whole of Mumbai. The
hotel needs to be visited just for that reason. In a
polluted city like Mumbai, having won the accolade of
being the most eco-friendly hotel is no mean achievement.
On the outside Orchid is quite a plain looking hotel. There
used to be a ordinary hotel in the place before, but it had
the best discotheque Go Bananas - one of the earliest in
Mumbai. At least for my generation.
Back to the Orchid, the inside is very impressive. As soon
as you enter the centre of the place has a cylindrical
water fall with the sound effects and all.
On the first floor is The Boulevard - which is the coffee
shop. Alongwith some cool cold coffee that the place has
to offer it is also quite known for its midnight bouffets.
The bouffet starts at about 11.30 every night and lasts
till 5 in the morning or so.
In a total of 300 rupees one is served a bowl of soup, and
an entire bouffet - including choice of vegetables, rice,
chinese items and varieties of salads.
The best part of it however is the dessert. There are at
any given night six to eight varieties of desserts ranging
from western mousse to Indian jalebis. For all those with
a sweet tooth (like me) this bouffet is irresistible.
The top floor of the hotel has another restaurant which
operates only in the evenings. The open air terrace overlooks
the airport and has a flight taking off every few minutes.
There are some amazing kababs served here. Although a little
more expensive than The Boulevard, this place is quite neat
for an evening of drinks and starters.
The rooms in the hotel are quite the same as in every other five
star hotel. Nothing really exceptional.
For those of you who drop in just for the meals, the rest room
on the ground floor also deserves a visit. Not just for literal
reasons. The rest room is done up in the most elegant way.
Quite indescribale actually. But it is definitely worth a
dekko.
