The Others! Are you the intruder?

I have read a few reviews already on this movie and I just couldn’t wait to see it myself. Well tonight I finally got the privilege to watch this movie, and man do I have a few things to say about it. So off now to the review.

The Others: Staring Nicole Kidman

The story takes place after WW2 Nicole’s husband was off at war, but war was over and he had not yet returned. She was living in this big old Victorian style home with her two children a boy named Nicolas, and a girl named Anna. The fog had come in land and it was always dreary outside, but the light would shine through the fog every now and then. When Nicole hires 3 people to help her out around the house she has no idea what is in store for their family. Nicole’s children are allergic to the light outside; the only type of light that they can see or be around is the light that is so dim from the oil lamps that are used throughout the house. If they were to have sunlight shine in the house the children would break out in sores and blisters and then stop breathing and then die within minutes. She ordered the 3 new helpers to make sure that the curtains were to be closed at all times when her children were awake. There was also one other rule that she had and that was when you walk into one room and open the door you have to make sure that you close the other door that was open before you walk in the new room. All doors had to be shut before another could be open. This was a very striked rule and it needed to be carried out.

The little girl had a secret, but she was never allowed to speak of it. She was trying to tell the new nanny about one night when her mom went mad, but her brother told her to shut up and not talk about it and then Nicole walks in the room. She told the nanny that sometimes her daughter makes up stories that are not true and to just ignore what she is saying. Then one day Nicole had her children in one room together and they were doing their schoolwork, and they started to argue so she separated the two children. When she was walking back to see her son she heard someone crying so she thought it was her son, she unlocked his door but he was studying. So she rushed off to see if her daughter was crying and she wasn’t either. This is when she started to hear about the little boy named Victor who kept saying that it was his house and that they had to leave!

Nicole then saw a door that was opened in her daughters study room. She knew that she didn’t open it so she went to talk to the two nannies and of course they said they didn’t do it either! So who was the one who opened the door was it really Victor? Then one night Anna got into trouble once again and she had to sit on the stairs and read from the Bible, well her mom heard someone walking in the rooms above so she told the older nanny to tell the younger nanny to be more careful and quiet. Then she realized when she looked outside that the younger nanny wasn’t even in the house. So who was making the sounds? It wasn’t her daughter cause she seen her sitting on the stairs, and it wasn’t her son either. She then asked her daughter if she knew who was in the upstairs room and she said yes, but that she wouldn’t believe her even if she told her. So she went up stairs and opened the one door and she could hear two people inside it. They were looking around and then they left and went into other parts of the house.

Now Nicole new there had to be intruders in their home, she then realized her daughter must have been telling the truth! That night she kissed them, and she decided she would walk into town to get the Father (priest) to come to the house and bless every room. During that time the fog was really thick, she wasn’t able to go that far until she runs into someone in the deep fog. Here it turns out to be her husband back from the war. She hugged him and took him back home. He wasn’t really the same he was mad in his own sense. He didn’t talk or eat, just laid in the bed. The next day Nicole and her daughter Anna were trying on the new communion dress that she made for her daughter’s first communion day. After she tried it on Nicole told her it was time to take it off, but she pleaded for her mom to leave it on for a while. Then she said ok, and went to see her husband. When she returned back to the room she told Anna she had to take off the dress, when she looked closer at Anne she could see that she didn’t look the same. In stead she looked like an old woman with wrinkled skin. She then started to yell at the old lady and ask were her daughter was. She looked at Nicole and said “are you mad? I am your daughter.” Then Nicole started to fight with her and then the nanny comes in and Nicole pulls off the veil and there is her daughter. She thought her mom was trying to kill her!

Conclusion

Wow I can’t finish this review because if I do then I will end up telling the ending for sure! Believe me this was a movie that started out suspenseful and ends with a BANG that you will not believe! I read one review were they said the ending was stupid and that it could have ended in a better way. Well let me tell that person I’m sorry but I felt the ending was awesome and so unpredictable that it made it the perfect ending! I don’t see any other way they could have ended this movie then the way the already did. For this being a thriller it was great because there was NO blood and Guts and swear words. You really didn’t even know the people who you were seeing were really Ghost’s. That was cool cause normally when you think of a ghost movie you think of them looking all dead and ugly. This is one ghost movie that took a new twist! I just love the accent that the family all had; they picked a great actress to play the mom, and the kids done a fabulist job as well. Did you also know that Nicole Kidman’s ex-husband was also the co-producer of this movie? I wonder how that all went behind the scenes? I just can’t stop talking about the ending, that is the most important reason to watch this movie is to find out what does happen at the end. I don’t however suggest that a young child watch it. I feel a small child under the age of 12 would be too afraid in some parts of this movie. You know how in movies when something scary is going to happen they will play that loud weird music? That is how they normally get you prepared for something, well in this movie it’s the opposite, and that is cool cause then you are least expecting things to happen when they really do. So all I have to say in the conclusion is go out and see this movie today!
