My first time was when I was 14 years old....
it was a rainy day in ooty, we were all locked in at home, not a thing to do, after all there was nothing much to do indoors in ooty
thats when I opened my first book of Stephen King..... The Shining it was....
to this day, that book has a special place in my heart.....
my wife tells me now, that I must be a sadistic person to read and enjoy Stephen King books....
the truth is, im scared, VERY scared when I read his books, something that I can safely hide behind my male ego!!
to tell you the truth, that was not the first book of his that I would have wanted to have read.....
i had heard about IT from an older friend maybe a year before that time, and I was intrigued, really scared yes, but intrigued about the storyline...
a clown and a ghost all rolled into one supernatural being?
but I did happen to come across shining before I had the you-know-what to pick up IT.
it was a study in comparison for me that day, Jack and his family snowbound in the remote hotel, me rainbound, albeit with 4 other cousins, in ooty.
ok, ok it was not that great a comparison, but hey, I was 14 years old.... and for me even then Stephen King was a scary story teller....it was like I was more scared of what the book might have, than the actual content of the book itself...
bascially because of my weird imagination....
sort of the reputation precedeth the man!
i continued to read the entire day, and finished the book the next day afternoon....
there was a time in the late afternoon, when I did carry the book to the toilet even, I just couldnt put it down, and there is this scene described in the book about how Danny, Jacks son, would draw the curtains around the bath tub and find a dead, decaying body of a lady in there......
i remember almost having a heart attack at that point of time!!!!
on the whole, this book is damn good for people who dont mind, or even like being scared....
also this book really showcases Stephen Kings abilities to tell a story....
on the whole a 5 * book....
