In the current scenario where high definition 3D animation movies are released, the producers of this film have dared to release one in 2-D. Yes, The Simpsons Movie is the one I am talking about. This movie, or rather a 90 minute cartoon episode has changed the thinking of the present day animators. The movie has proved that it doesnt require breathtaking animation and visual effects to make a movie a blockbuster. A simple storyline along with light-hearted humour will just do the trick!
The Movie begins with Homer Simpson commenting to the audience that all those who paid to see something on the big screen , which they could have rather watched free on television are jerks. What A Start! It had the audience in high pitched laughter! An insult hurled at us the true American way!
Story.
The Simpsons doesnt lack humour, one should know this if they have followed the serial. Lisa Simpson wants to make her city(Springfield) environmental friendly.She also organises a show by the music Band Greenday who get drowned for appealing to the public to save the environment! Finally, after much protest and hard-work Lisa makes her city understand the importance of the change and they agree to clean up the city lake and keep it tidy thereafter. Everybody agrees, except Homer Simpson (Lisa’s dad). In order to get hold of the free doughnuts at the bakery, Homer decides to avoid the long traffic, to dump a silo of his pet pig’s waste in the clean lake. This waste pollutes the whole river. making it toxic. The EPA (Environmental Protection Association) notice it and enclose the whole city in a hard glass dome. The Simpsons family escape death in the hands of their own neighbours by slipping through a sand box out the city to Alaska for a new life.
In the meantime, Springfield goes short of electricity and the whole city becomes famished. The head of the EPA decides to bomb the city stating environmental protection as a reason for it. The Simpsons in Alaska come to know about this. But Homer is least interested in saving the city which tried to kill them. But his wife Marge and his children depart from Alaska to save Springfield.
Homer realises his mistake and decides to save his city and his friends. He uses a bike and along with his son rides around the dome to reach the top and dispose off the bomb. The bomb blast breaking the whole dome and the city is saved.
The movie is a Simpsons classic. It has the insults, slang and even Homer showing his middle finger to the people of Springfield which escaping. special appearances like Arnold Schwarzennger, Tom Hanks and the GreenDay band add value to the film.
This movie has created an all new perspective for the animators. Even a puppet show on the big screen can be enjoyed to the fullest. Humour rules the movie. It’s a laugh riot to put it in a nutshell.
