The Simpsons is another of the American ’Comedy’ shows imported to these shores on an ever increasing basis, so what makes this stand out? Well for starters it is actually FUNNY. The entire concept of a Yellow, animated family who live like humans in every way except a fifth finger is odd to say the least. Simpsons must also have the largest cast ever known to a TV show.
The main characters are of course the Simpsons family who consist of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and little Maggie.
Homer: Homer is a fat, stupid incompetent blubbering Idiot. He hates his job, and never treats it with any seriousness - despite working in a Nuclear power plant. He loves bowling and Doughnuts, Porkchops, Meatloaf - pretty much everything but his kids. And of course he loves spending time at Moes and drinking Duff beer.
Marge: Marge is the overbearing, over-protective mother, houswife and slave to the rest of the family. Has few friends as she spends the entire time in the house, except to get the shopping of course.
Bart: The loveable tearaway who has a conscience but no power to resist doing wrong, always getting detention from Skinner - his school principal. Best friends with Millhouse and always argueing with Lisa.
Lisa: Child prodigy who is far too clever for her own age, or good come to think of it. Brilliant Jazz musician on the Saxaphone.
Maggie: Cries, Sleeps or sucks on her dummy
Other Characters include:
Grandpa - Lives at the retirement home, disliked by all the family
Jasper - Old, blind and lives at the Old folks home with Grandpa
Moe - He owns the bar where Homer goes drinking
Barney - Springfield resident alcoholic
Karl and Lenny - Both drink, bowl and work with Homer
Mr Burns - Stinking Rich, about 120 years old, hated by everyone
Smithers - A VERY CAMP man who is assistant to Mr Burns.
Milhouse - Dorky mate of Bart, has a crush on Lisa
Nelson, Jimbo, Courney - School Bullies
Seymor Skinner - Lives with his mum, never married
Chalmers - Super Intendent, doesn’t get on well with Principal (Seymor) Skinner
Apu - Owns, Runs, and never leaves the KwickiMart.
Prof. Fink - Crazy Scientist who is very weird
Fat Bloke - Owns the Androids Dungeon Comic book store - ’’A fat sarcastic Stak Trek fan’’
The humour in the Simpsons can sometimes be a little on the contraversial but most of it is just light hearted fun. It is not a show you can watch relaxed or you will miss some of the more cyptic jokes which are often the best.
Give it a go if you are one of the few people who has never watched.
