A Royal Treat

A look at The Statesman and you are bowled over by its sheer grandeur. The Statesman is perhaps one of the oldest newspapers in India still going strong. But, it has not been able to keep up with time and Generation Next.

The Statesman still contains articles of eminent journalists and personalities. The editorial is perhaps the best in India. Earlier, it was a mandatory social practice to read The Statesman if one wished to be considered affluent. But, now the readership as well as the features of the paper has gone down.

The Statesman could not keep pace with Times, HT, Telegraph &c. the quality of paper of the aforementioned newspapers is ver good which is not so with The Statesman. But, if one wishes to read serious and hardcore news then The Statesman is the best.

What the paper needs to do to regain supremacy is an aggressive advertisement campaign accompanied by an overhauling of the contents. Reinventing the look it had 20 yrs. ago may also do good.

I appeal to all serious minded readers to subscribe to The Statesman so that its readership grows and also a regal heritage remains from being extinct.

The statesman is published from Kolkata, New Delhi and Siliguri.
