Before I start of this review I must say that 5 point someone was simply brilliant as for one night at a call centre it too was pretty darn good!
The informal style of writing, fast paced storyline was something new and refreshing which caught on instantly although at 250-280 pages I found them a tad bit short but it was a very good experience reading them overall.I would certainly like to see the movie versions of both these books. The premise for "three mistakes of my life" is good atleast initially and the first hundred pages will keep your interest sustained. However it somehow loses steam later on and I felt like bhagat had simply added everything he knew about cricket and current events which is why this book feels more like a news magazine rather than a novel.
Finally compared to the other two books the story seems rather anachronistic and far fetched from reality. At times I thought this was more of more of a bollywood script rather than a novel.the cliches are all there and the way the storyline builds up is far too dramatic for its own good. The biggest cardinal sin here were the overly detailed cricket matches.feels more like a sports almanac at times.Strictly as a one time read.3 mistakes of my life isnt that bad but it just isnt in the same league as his prior two works.Maybe you should go buy a serious novel worth its sticker price something like Shantaram(definitely worth the 360 bucks you pay for it).Let me surmise the serious lack of content here which is despite adding everything from the test series against australia where laxman played his memorable innings and India garnered a historical win against australia, bhuj earthquake, september 9/11, another few cricket matches, communal rights the book comes across a measly 250 pages read(although all these events are somehow interwined in the plot) and there are also way too many sexual innuendos to begin with. Most of all the protagonist govind is most certainly not someone you would want to even identify with and comes across as an regular you know wht.The previous books struck a chord somewhere but this one is more like a half baked attempt at story-telling.
My best advise is to save your 90 bucks if it is burning a holle in your pocket and go buy a bottle of beer, Tandoori chicken, watch a good flick with your gf or something like that.the fun will definitely last a lot longer and it wont feel like a rip-off.
