Writing anything in anger would not make it good. Oh, but I am so angry.
I am really lost as to where do I begin. Having now come to Pune, I have started reading The Times of India, truly because no other paper available here is good(Indian Express, DNA). Previously I was a regular reader of The Hindu, and yes I used to have complaints about it, as I felt the standards were coming down. But after reading The Times for a few days now, I really feel The Hindu is far far better.
I think The Times has forgotten what Journalism is! All I see in the papers is now only advertisements, posters(pictures), Colors and hardly any news except of course the front page, so very important Cricket and bidding. Let us look at the columns they have - editorial - which looks like a school essay -if you have not read it, please do, something called Mind over Matter - fine(it makes one good reading) and about spirituality from Bappi Lahiri - one needs to be mundane, down to earth, examples always from cinema- It will be better if they interview a common man about every week and write down his or her views instead of interviewing Bappi Lahiri. Their international news is a farce.
Ah yes, Supplements! Pune Times - I see nothing except Cinema and Advertisements there. One does not feel like solving Sudoku or crosswords, because the page looks so dirty-crammed with all sorts of things. Sunday supplements are worse,
Used to reading Hindu - Sunday supplements along with Literary Review, Times offered very poor read. Life - a Sunday supplement of theirs - has nothing worthwhile to read. Advertisements are about property, supplements are about property, its always property- I dont get to see anything else in that damned old paper. Its very very disappointing.
Once upon a time, The Times of India indeed was a classic newspaper, I remember my grandpa reading it page by page- it was so bulky. What happened? If its Business, its regrettable, if they think its a renovation, its a serious mistake - probably, they are setting precedence.
The only thing worth now in TImes of India is Cartoon by R.K Laxman, Mind Over Matter and Classifieds.
I think its high time that they start offering something serious and sober to decent educated ones.
I certainly recommend this paper, if u don not have any other go- like me . Here I get The Hindu one day old- that too Hyderabad edition, which I think I should start buying, if I have to read any news.
