Newspaper of the World, my foot !

I buy the TOI(and The Statesman) because my neighbours buy the HT and the Indian Express. So I am in the best position to compare. When it comes to reporting late evening sports like cricket abroad, the Statesman invariably manages to squeeze in the end-of-the-day result: making the TOI look like a newspaper of the mohalla ! The magazine section Delhi Times is merely an instrument of titillation. The internet humour selections are so filthy that I cannot ask my daughter to even look up the TV programme updates printed in the next column. If it is true that it has a lady editor then pity she allows so much meaningless exposure of flesh, at times veiled only to accentuate.

The best offers? Pizzas, goodies, freebies...news about upcoming car rallies... no. Borrow your neighbour’s HT City. The format of the paper is utterly unimaginative. Those who wish to rapidly catch up with the Sports news before leaving for office are left searching for the right page stashed somewhere inside.

One must concede, however, that the paper has good resale value as you get more junk for less price when you buy it.
