Lost Track Of the Times

The Times of India-Bangalore started off as a Competitor to an already flourishing Newspaper in Bangalore and Karnataka called Deccan Herald. Nowadays Bangalore Times looks more like FTV in print, not to speak of the Sunday times. I would really like to see in these columns how other city editions are faring.

Times of India is now reduced to a showcase featuring all and sundry items found in Ulhasnagar Markets, which they sell at indiatimes shopping. I am sure there are at least 2-3 ads featuring products( CD’s, Books, Gizmos) from indiatimes sites everyday.TOI also thinks that by featuring articles about citizens’ interest like bad infrastructure, NGOs’they are doing yeoman service to this society. No doubt this makes good reading. But this is simply not what a national newspaper of TOI’s stature be doing. I would like to say that as a newspaper they have run out of ideas. Times of india is probably one of the few newspapers that has other things more than news. Some years back I used to read Bombay times and never found it boring.I think traditional ’Newspapers’ like Deccan Herald and the Hindu have left TOI way behind in terms of quality and content. Though I must appreciate TOI’s enviable position in Job ads through its supplement called ascent. They are simply still the best!!

TOI should really do a retrospective exercise before it slips down from its place, which for TOI fans like me would be a disappointment.
