The ToI used to be a newspaper that I grew up with, frequently looking-up the words used in it in the dictionary and using its editorials to build my vocabulary.
Today, the standards of English in the newspaper are plumbing the depths of journalism. Sometimes I’m so pained that I have actually written to the Editor about it, of course to never elicit a response. English, meanwhile, continues to be massacred at the hands of the barely-literate staff that ToI seems to be staffing these days.
The quality of content is another nightmare. Gone are the times when the ToI used to be fair competition to stalwarts like The Hindu. Today, it will do well to match the standards of Aaj Tak and other sensationalist news-channels. ToI - may your good soul rest in peace.
