UNTIL recently, I had no idea about tsunamis. It was awful to read about so many lives gone. I recently read of a horrifying incident in the newspaper. A woman named Jillian Searles and her family,
consisted of her husband and two sons, were vacationing in Thailand. The husband was stuck in the hotel, and Jillian knew that it was impossible to keep herself and her two sons afloat. She had to make a decision that would change her life. She had to let go of one son. She left her elder son with a woman, who later let go of him. The son barely survived by clinging to a hotel room door. This is just one incident. There have been thousands of deaths, and millions of victims.
The death toll has risen. 158000+ people have just been swallowed up by the huge tidal wave. There is no way left to help the dead victims. But we can help the victims who are just barely alive - around many million. Let’s do the maths. If a kg of - for example - rice costs 50 rupees approximately, then a quarter should cost you around 12.5 rupees, hardly a great amount. This is the rice that is left behind when everyone has eaten their fill. This is the leftover that nobody eats. Instead of just throwing out the rice, just cook enough that you know will be enough. And donate the rest to a charity near you. Make sure that it is a trusted charity service. Also, do you really need those spare blankets?
