The Village is a come back for M. Night Shyamalan who has been unimpressive in his past, with Signs and Unbreakable. In Village he recaptures his theme Fear is in what you dont see pretty well. I was there on the second night of the screening, in a jam packed hall, and we all shared certain moments of unexpected gasps of mild terror and surprise that occured in the movie. The story line is very different from the usual, and it is really welcome. There are no run of the mill ghosts and spooks.
As the suspense unfolds, pretty much later into the movie, the audience slowly starts appreciates all the incidents leading upto the story. The cinematography and acting are par excellence, and it was no surprise to me that Night was able to unseat the Bourne Supremacy. This is a slow movie, with suspense and horror as its mainstay.
Do not go with preset notions and expectations, and you will really feast what happens. If you are looking for action and bloodshed, this is not the movie for you!
As a post note, the music didnt seem all that original, with the overtones sounding very much like Jurassic Park in certain places, but you would probably not notice.
