The Walk - Gripping and tensing!

The Walk is a biographical 3D film directed by Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kigsley, Charlotte Le Bon and James Badge Dale. The screenplay is written by Christopher Browne and Robert Zemeckis. The movie shows the real life incident happened in the life of a French high-wire artist named Philippe Petit. On August 7, 1974 Petit walked on wire between the Twin Towers. Unbelievable, isn’t it?

Robert Zemeckis has always been a director who knows exactly how to market his films and he never failed in bringing people to watch his movies in theatres. Seven years ago, a documentary titled “Man on Wire” was released which portrayed the exact same thing. Zemeckis made this film out of the general thought that most of the people prefer movies over documentaries. Zemeckis’s lover for CGI and VFX can be seen from his earlier films itself. He brilliantly balanced everything and presented it in a grant manner which really was a visual treat. The camera angles used during the epic walk would definitely make you heart beat rise. The 3D effects during the walk will make us feel that we are standing next to Petit!

Petit’s character was safe in Levitt’s hands. Levitt was trained by Petit himself; the reel life character trained by the real life character. But there was nothing much to explore from his as the real show stealers were the CGI and VFX.

The only con that I heard from some of the viewers was that the narration was a bit slow paced. But I think that for a biographical film like this being a bit slow paced is good and I personally like it. The 3D experience that I had while watching film, especially during “the walk” was beyond imagination.

The documentary was extremely impressive but I am pretty sure that it can’t give you the grand scale visual extravaganza which can be enjoyed only from the theatres in 3D.
