Tirupachi = MRTP (Maha Royal Time Pass)

Even as I was watching Tirupachi last evening, my mind was on the review I simply HAD to write ! I am not repeating the storyline or mentioning the credits. Quite a few previous reviewers have done that.

Having read some of the other reviews prior to watching the movie, I went into the hall with no expectations at all. Surprisingly, I came out feeling quite good and happy. This is no unique story or any novel angle explored. Just the usual Brother-Sister affection (This is no ’’Pasa Malar’’ though !) , Small town boy being put off by ’’dirty’’ chennai ( Though I feel they have overdone the ’’Bad’’ Chennai bit), one-man army taking on the underworld as well as the Police etc etc

Yet the whole package works ! How ? Because it follows the Dharani success formula of movie-making - Have a thin story line, a fast paced story (fast narrative not story ) , dont permit the audience to pause to think & take them for a fast and entertaining ride. It worked with Dhool, Gilli & now the same concept is used in Tirupachi (Though by a different director) So you have loud-mouthed villians like ’’Pattas’’ Balu, ’’Pan Parag’’ Ravi and ’’Saniyan’’ Sakatai !!! There has been no attempt to make them appear ruthless. In fact all three are quite funny especially ’’Pattas’’ Balu and ’’Saniyan’’ Sakatai !

There is also a generous sprinkling of foul words and expletives throughout the movie.

Trisha has no role at all and provides entertainment value only in the songs. She looks quite cute and trim.

Vijay is copying Rajni increasingly in his movies - especially the comedy scenes which remind you of Veera and Muthu. I feel he should attempt to evolve a comedy style of his own. I also feel this 3-day stubble appearance is quite stale now and he should change it. He looked so much better in the clean shaven-with mush look. Maybe the Girls prefer this - I dont know !

Somehow I feel Vijay is better off providing simple wholesome entertainment rather than a ’’postman’’ who delivers messages and a lecturer. It just doesnt gel.

The songs are not as bad as some have projected them. ’’Kannum Kannum’’ (shot in South Africa) and ’’Kattu Kattu Keera Kattu’’ are quite entertaining - Though quite a few song sequences look like a copy from the ’’Appidi Podu’’ song.

My take ? Go watch Tirupachi (with friends) and have a few hearty laughs.
