You wont see a weak man that he was made out to be. you wont see a molester that the media insisted he was.
Instead, you see a man inspired. spurred on. by the prospect of being in the midst of his fans one more time.
for one last time.
It was supposed to be a rock n roll extravaganza like never before. The sets . the costumes. the dancers. the performance. was supposed to be something that the world had never seen before.
sadly. we never will.
but, a glimpse of what was in store for us, we sure can. I did. you should too!
This Is It, the documentary, nay, i’d say, the diary of MJ’s rehearsals for the unprecedented 50-concert tour of England, just blows you away by the energy this man brought to the stage. the dedication with which he practised. the passion that he brought to his performance. and consequently to the performance of his dancers, vocalists and musicians. And most thankfully, there’s no voice-over to distract you from the experience.
Kenny Ortega, the director for the concert and the documentary, has managed to capture part of the magic that MJ would’ve brought to the stage, had these concerts happened.
And apparently, MJ was going to introduce a new dance movie to rival his Moonwalk. I just hope he did it in one of the rehearsals and someone shot it!(it sure aint in the docu. tho, at one point in a Billie Jean solo, he does say "Just to get a feel of it.")
He was ever so humble, ever so polite even while micro-managing the whole show. He wasnt the STAR during the rehearsals. he was one of the co-workers, perfecting the cues. politely instructing his colleagues what exactly he wanted and how he wanted it to sound. in these 100 odd minutes, he never once raised his voice.
There were sequences with ghouls and ghosts filmed. MJ had a sequence with the beautiful Rita Hayworth and Humphrey Bogart too.
The concerts would’ve been just awesome!
But it was never to be.
