A friend of mine whos working for this site forced to give her my unbiased feedback, which Im sharing with you here! Touted as the first Tamil ezine for women, the content displayed in Unicode so that you dont need to download a font, the site is neatly designed and the articles are nice to read. The first issue of this fortnightly features a debate on a much-argued-about topic in Chennai - dress code in colleges.
Its interesting to see that the opinion poll shows a lot of women voting in favour of a dress code for women in colleges. Poet Kanimozhi and Dr N Shalini, a psychiatrist (whos become a darling of the Tamil media of late) have written provocative columns on stereotyping women. I think even men should read Kanimozhis article because shes asking which all aspects of culture should be retained and which need to be rejected. These two articles and one really fiery outburst in the debate section give the site a somewhat feminist colour (not that feminism is a bad word!).
And theres the usual beauty and cooking channels which women might find interesting. The event coverage, profile and the human interest articles are all good, though they could have been shorter. Poetry deserves special mention. But some pages in the site dont have a link to return to the previous page. The font could be bigger. Most sections contain only one item, the literature section for example. The opinion poll system theyre using allowed me to vote against dress code twice from the same PC. Whats more interesting to me personally is that the home page of the site carries an announcement that a new blogging service is going to be launched - the third in India after Rediff and Sify, if Im right, and a first for Tamil.
