Mozilla Thunderbird v3 v/s MS, Apple n Eudora Mail

Mozilla Thunderbird v3 Compete real Good with MS outlook, Apple Mail or Eudora Email clients.

Mozilla released Thunderbird 3, Beta 4 for testing. It includes the long-waited integration with the Mac OS X Address Book. This Quick Look review briefly introduces the Thunderbird e-mail application and compares it to Apple’s Mail App and MS outlook.

I have been an Outlook user for long time however Outlook has been degrading by performance problems ever since release of outlook 2003 and keeps getting worse. Almost impossible to work as it crashes every time People generally have strong feelings about their e-mail program. One can get much attached to a particular application, and yet always be yearning for something better.

Thunderbirds Quick Look won’t draw waves in once mind but performance & features certainly will!  Get the latest beta release of Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird makes e-mailing safer, faster, and easier with such features as intelligent spam filters, a built-in RSS reader, add-ons, themes, and quick search. One of the key goals of Thunderbird 3 is to allow easier set up of an initial e-mail account options in order to provide control and flexibility.

For example, the POP, SMTP and port server settings are preloaded for Google Mail. Also Thunderbird has more easier way of defining e-mail signatures and the ability to set a background color for the body of messages. In addition to this one can configure Exchange or OUTLOOK web access along with most popular email account like Hotmail, yahoo etc in Thunderbird 3

All Mozilla Thunderbird configuration settings and Email are maintained in ..\Users\Bunty\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird/Profiles, so users who needs migrate to new workstation can copy it directly after installing thunderbird to retain original configuration.

What’s new in this version?

Thunderbird 3 Beta 4 is based on the Gecko 1.9.1.3 platform including a major overhaul to improve performance, stability, web compatibility, and code simplification and sustainability.

There are over 200 changes in this release, many laying the groundwork for future changes, including:

1) Thunderbird is a faster new Search feature with Advanced Filtering Tools

2) New Global Search Field with Auto complete

3) New Mail Account Setup Wizard feature can add Gmail account, feeds, and newsgroups almost automatically for most users. There is also the ability to manually add accounts as well.

4) Redesigned Mail Toolbar

5) Tabbed Email ... see all new features which can show your email accounts, feeds or new messages can show up as tabs, instead of a new window.

6) A new archiving feature makes saving message a snap and is kind of like what Gmail has been offering for their accounts.

7) Improvements to IMAP for faster message viewing

8) Improved message reader view

10) New Add-ons Manager

11) Improved Address Book interface

12) Improved import of mail from other Mail clients

13) Integration with Mac OS X Address Book

In particular, the integration with the Mac OS X Address Book may be the tipping point for many. Without that integration, many Mac users just ignored version 2 -- not wanting to maintain two address books.

14) T-bird works fine in Windows 7.

Mozilla is continuing their beta testing of their new Thunderbird 3 email program, which is expected to go final towards the end of December, 2009. I have been trying the latest beta, T-bird 3 beta 4 this past week and I like what I am seeing so far. First of all the new email version opens a lot quicker than version 2 does. But what really is new is the streamlined user interface that can be customized by the user. Thunderbird will soon become a powerful motivation and a realistic candidate for those users who needs smaller, simpler and feature rich email client application which can provide faster access to their tons of emails that too without spending single penny. Thunderbird for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X is totally free.
