The Tiger is greatly respected and even revered in Asia. In the Chinese Zodiac the Tiger is regarded as one of the very best birth signs. Equally Tiger beer, brewed by the Asia Pacific Breweries’, a joint venture between Frasers & Neave and Heineken NV of Holland, is a hugely popular beverage throughout South East Asia and other regions of the world. It is the best selling beer in its homeland and very popular in neighboring Malaysia; it also has quite a following among lager buffs in the UK. Today Asia Pacific Breweries’ have breweries not only in its home country of Singapore but also in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, and Tiger, which has been produced since 1932 , is very much the company’s flagship brand. Tiger has won over 30 international awards for its quality and is available in certain outlets including a few pubs, supermarkets and off licences in the UK. You will also find many ethnic eateries , particularly those specialising in Malaysian/Singaporean and Indonesian food stock it for their patrons. In its home territory it is the preferred choice of beer and tour the pubs and coffee shops of Singapore and you will see most of the patrons are chilling out with a glass or two of Tiger.Even in neighboring Malaysia it is enormously popular and vies with the likes of Anchor and Carlsberg for top spot among beer drinkers. Tiger is a Pilsner type beer with a alcohol by volume (ABV) of 5 %. It is ideal cool , refreshing, lager for the hot and humid weather to be found in South East Asia.
However, it also travels well and beer afficinados in the UK will tell you it is one of the best lagers of its type to be found in the market. It is a consistent , reliable , brew and has a light colour. It is a tad sweet and leaves very little after taste. It is available in bottles and cans with the latter being the more popular. It is well presented and the blue can is very distinctive with the yellow head of the Tiger being prominent. It goes very well with Asian cuisine in particular it cools you down if you have opted for spicy Thai or pyrotechnic Indian foods. It is also OK with light Italian or Japanese meals. If you have yet to sample this great lager from the Island Republic of Singapore, I would strongly recommend you give it a try. I do believe you will be pleasantly surprised and the chances are that if you try it once you will back for more of the Tiger ! Thanks very much for reading and rating this review.
