8 reasons why you should NEVER go for Tikona

I am forced to choose Tikona as no other dedicated broadband networks are available in my area currently. For Tikona WiBro unlimited 750 kbps, I pay Rs. 899(plus tax) per month.

# Their sales representatives are stupid. The rep did a mistake for which I had to cancel the subscription and take it all over again. They charged me twice for the installation(Rs. 500 for each) saying it is their policy(and, ignoring their rep’s mistake!). And, so many spelling mistakes!

# Their connection is very unstable. To download a large file, if I keep the job overnight, it, more often than not, disconnects. Happening almost every night, very frustrating. I have been seeing disconnection every now and then while working online.

# You must open your browser and log on to the Tikona network before you start using the internet(even when with the ethernet cable, i.e., wired connection). Therefore, if the network gets disconnected(because of power failure or unstable signal from Tikona), you  must log back in! This is simply unacceptable as your download or other jobs will not resume automatically although you are using something like download manager. Why is the re-connection not automatic?

# They keep the MODEM in the roof(why?) and the PoE adapter in your room. Some physical disconnection happened twice(once in every month) in the MODEM in the roof. The rep over the phone could not detect it remotely(because he could see that the signal until the MODEM was OK) and practically harassed me by asking to do some troubleshooting although I kept saying with confidence that something might be wrong between the MODEM and the PoE adapter as my router was not showing the signal at all. He did not listen to me and asked me to continue troubleshooting in my computer by disabling and enabling the network adapter, restarting the computer and so on. I decided to go the roof later and reconnected the cable there in the MODEM. The connection came back.

# Now, read the conversation below:

Rep: Go to start and click on the Run menu in your laptop.

Me: Sir, I am using Windows 7, there is no Run menu.

Rep: There is a Run menu, just find it Sir.

Me: In Windows 7, there is no Run menu unlike in Windows xp. If you want it, you have to use keyboard short-cut which is Win+R.

Rep(after I argued twice): OK, forget, go to search instead and type ncpa.cpl.

Do you think this rep is trained enough?

# They don’t give you any money back even though their connection goes offline for 5 days or more. Why pay them when they have no service?

# You never get the speed which you pay for. According to their policy of unlimited service, they cap the speed after some GBs, however, I find they have been CAPPING LONG TIME BEFORE I reach the limit.

# They allow a max of 2 computers to be connected for my subscription.

Therefore, if you do not need a dedicated broadband, and you have no options other than Tikona, go for a USB MODEM. If you do need a dedicated broadband, and you can find any other service provider, please go for that.

Take Tikona and regret like me!

The day I find an alternative, I will switch. Just waiting for BSNL or Airtel to come in.
