I have been reading Time magazine ever since 1971 when its news-stand price was Rs.4/- and annual subscription used to cost Rs.95 ! when Henry Luce was very much alive and active! It was expensive then and expensive even now. But thats the price one has to pay to be on top of the happenings in the world of politics, economics, news, views, science...et all. You name it Time has it. I read Newsweek too for many years, but Time is Time, nothing comes close to it. India today is a Indianised clone and they are proud to have modelled it on Time.
The magazine has been continuously evolving over a period of years, it has never stagnated or become stale and outdated, there have been many changes keeping up with the changing times, but the essence, the core values and the basic integrity and quality journalism has never been compromised.
The unique usage of English language, the unique style of storytelling, there are many unique features which a hardcore Time reader like me can never get elsewhere.
Though Time mainly concentrates on United States, and coverage of the rest of the world is less, nevertheless nothing important happening anywhere in the world is ever missed.
Very few Indians have made it to the cover of Time, which is unfair I believe. We Indians definitely deserve more coverage than what Time gives us.
NEVERTHELESS. The knowledge and information that I imbibed over a period of years reading Time has stood me in good stead whenever I have travelled abroad, I have been comfortable discussing about the particular country and its affairs with lot of confidence and insight, which has always made my hosts very happy.
I recommend Time to all my colleagues who want to keep themselves constantly updated, and also plan to be a globetrotter.
