GE Countrywide- blind organisation!

I am Anirban working with a media group in a reputed private organisation in New Delhi.

I have been facing a problem due to the extreme unprofessional and unethical attitude of a financial organization. Through this mail I would like to know from you about the steps that I can take at my position against this company and also what the formalities for the same.

I bought a two-wheeler six months back from a Hero Honda dealer in Delhi. I took a loan from a financial organisation whose executive were present in the showroom and convinced us to accept their loan. Although I was in two minds on weather to take the loan or pay the full amount but considering the brand name of the financial organisation I thought I should take the loan. The loan amount was approximately 45000/- and I was to pay in 11 installments of around 3, 500/- each after paying the down payment of around 12, 000/- I took the loan in my wife’ s name.

The executive of the company has shown over enthusiasm and urgency in completing his formalities. In the process he came to our residence five times(every time at 9-9:30pm) and 2 times at my wife’s office to’verify’. Although annoyed and much disturbed I did not find it anything to complain for as it was his job. He first, asks us to write the amount and sign 11 cheques at the showroom itself.

He told us to not to fill in the payees address, as it is company’s duty to put stamps in each cheque. He came to our house two days back without any notification(again at 9-30pm) asking us to change the dates of every cheque, as there had been some change in the company policy. We did that in front of him.

Then started the real tragedy as very next month we received a call from a Call centre executive saying our cheque has been bounced because of’insufficient fund?. Startled I immediately enquire in the bank and I was told that the reason of the cheque not getting cleared is’there was no payees address or stamps? When I managed to call that executive again she promptly agreed about the mistake from their end and requested me to pay in cash for the month and also said the future cheques will be taken care by them.

We did the same and paid them by cash. And the onwards we stated getting calls from their executives each and every month repeating the same story. Each time I made to talk a different’executive’ who did not have any idea about the case.

I never found people more dumb, unprofessional and ill informed than these so called executives from this company. Each time I requested them to identify the cheques and either to put the payees address by themselves or bring them back to me so that I could do it by myself and each time they promised that the will rectify the fault and it would not happen from next time and we kept on paying cash for continuous 4 months.

At the fifth month when we were surprised to receive no calls from them and just beginning to think that they might have solved the problem finally, we were shocked by a’legal notice’ from them saying that - I had not been regular in making my payement and I need to contact them and make my rest of the payment immediately.

When in the very next day we went to their office and enquired about the case the concerned person there had no idea about this legal notice and said he promptly accepted their mistake. As we expressed our desire of maintaing no more contact with this kind of idiotic company and paying the rest of the amount together and a letter from them saying the reason for cheques getting bounced, he accepted that and agreed to settle the remaining amount to be paid(he had also given us a figure) and the letter by one day.

Instead of one day one month had passed and we had not had a single call from them. When I call up and somehow managed to get someone’senior’ and repeat the case all over again he called up next and had given us different figure(his own calculation which doesn?t matches with their own calculation before) and said he will be sending someone to collect the cash and the person will also be carrying the letters. The person indeed came(One week after the schedule date) and he came with empty hand with no letter no document, no knowledge of the case -only to collect the cash.

As I called up the so called’ senior person’ in the company again in front of the executive, he behaved like a dog(surprisingly he was supposed to be the senior most in Delhi branch!) and said even if it is their mistake they cannot issue any letter and if I don?t pay the cash immediately they will send the recovery people to collect the vehicle.

I had to pay the cash without any letter and I only have the receipt with me. Without that letter it would be very difficult for me to get any other loan because of their negative case history because of no fault of mine. I don?t want to spare these people with this kind of cheap attitude and mentality.

Although I have paid the price but I want they should at least realize their mistake and clarify it. There is complete miscommunication, mismanagement, un-professionalism and misbehavior in the company. The consumers cannot be made victims because of unworthiness of a company.Being in the media I will definitely try to communicate with people but I also need to know the legal side of it.

I will appreciate if you kindly suggest or guide me on the same. We should really wonder how this kind of organization is allowed to cheat people and who gave them the right to play with matter as serious as financial loan. I strongly recommend all never ever to take service from GE Countrywide.
