Folk music keeps culture alive

Once upon a time when bhojpuri was known to a very little people. I.e. People from Bihar and limited parts of uttar pradesh, there had been varieties of bhojpuri folk music like chaita, nirgun, jhoomar, biraha, etc. These music were the real reflection of the culture of Bihar. Songs were created according to the seasons, occasions and moods. But then time came when bhojpuri singers like radhe shyam rasiya, guddu rangeela came in light and metamorphosise the system. They started taking bhojpuri in a very wrong direction by their vulgar songs. Surprisingly people shown interest in those songs. From then bhojpuri culture started to loose its identity in the midst of newly launched system. Today in Bihar itself upper class people hate bhojpuri. They avoid listening and watching creations in bhojpuri. Because now bhojpuri has become second name for vulgarism and nudity. Each and every songs carry double meaning. Anyone from the road is recording his/her own songs according to their comfort. People have become so much habituated that they hate bhojpuri from outside but when they are alone they do listen bhojpuri songs in Bihar. Now a days if anyone is gonna evaluate Bihar’s culture on the basis of its songs that will not be fair. Even in hindi film industry many vulgar songs are being created and distributed and people are enjoying those songs too. I am unable to understand that is it the demand if our modern age or something else? Bhojpuri folk music can do better if there is a strong censorship on these things. And without that noone can record even a single track then it will be justified. Not every singers are like that but there is sharda sinha who still sings to revive Bihar’s culture. She records songs according to the regional festivals like chhath, holi etc. But still there is a lot to change because if any step against the overgrowing customs in the field of bhojpuri folk music, that day is not so far when the image of Bihari’s will be worsen than the present.
