I installed a projection system for our guest house in Bangalore . The best is to get the projector from the US: they cost around 40% of the cost in India. At least in Bangalore they did not even bother about the customs. Also get the HDMI cables from the US: again they cost a third of the cost in India. I did not get the speaker cables, but it is probably a good idea to get that also. If you travel often, plan to get the cables in one trip and the projector in the other to reduce the possible customs hassles.
I used a guy called Ramesh(who deals with Modern and others in Bangalore). The experience was terrible to say the least.
They did the wiring for the HDMI and speakers: now that I saw them doing it: it is actually a very easy process(I had zero experience with music system before and did not even know what HDMI was) and a local electrician can do it for you. With HDMI it is a single cable that takes everything: video, audio across radio, cable tv and dvd to your projector.
The DVD player:Blue Ray Sony cost be around$440. I bought the amplifier in India: again in the US I would have paid around$600 for it while I paid around Rs. 45, 000. The reason I did not get the AMP(or the AV Receiver) was because of the weight(around 15 kgs I think) and the Voltage difference in the US. While you can get away with the 50V Blue Ray player the AV Receiver requires a 800 V step down transfomer from the Indian 220 V to the 120V in the US. Singapore, Dubai and the Europe prices, around$1000 are similar to Indian prices and it is not worth buying it there.
Good luck
