Firstly, You should buy a medium size display phone.That is very confortable to keep, Watch videos, and to play games.
then, You should buy a good quality processor. If you are a game lover then, you must buy the phone having a processor snapdragon 835 or more than this.
camera, If you are a selfie lover or like to cliks photos then you should the mobile having camera of 12mp or more having f/2.0 or lower aperture camera. Only having more megapixel camera is not mean that it is better.
You should buy a long lasting battery mobile. But it is not so necesser.
Having a good RAM is ver important.
You should also check Internal Storage, body quality and design, OS etc.
