Phir Mile Sur

A Times of India Group & Vodafone initiative. Recreating the’Mile Sur’ magic, really? I think not.

Mile Sur had people from all walks of life, Singers, dancers, musicians, sports persons, intellectuals, film industry etc etc. Mile sur on youtube, has rightly over 4.5 lakh views in total. 1 video alone numbering 3.5 Lakhs. Don’t take my word, watch, https://youtube.com/watch?v=gstRrEmTcBc

Hundreds of renditions have been composed since at various college fests, university campuses, schools annual days etc. Still being watched year after year with such enthusiam, even after nearly a quarter of a century is truly remarkable. Parents must have been passed on this melodious tune to their children.

Phir Mile Sur has mainly "Bollywood" actors, many of whom don’t deserve this platform. Namely, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor, Dipika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, all of whom have been in the public eye for their flimsy affairs rather than work. Not having "Worked" more than 6 years in the industry, and having given extremely forgettable performances. The worst was Shahid Kapoor, promoting his’Chance Pe Dance’ image in a classic such as Mile Sur. Why Dipika Padukone has been featured, I’ll never understand. Having done a mere 4 garbage films, and not really making a mark in sports either. National Integration videos as such, are plain’public appearances’ for young stars like these. The saddest part about Phir Mile Sur is that it features Bollywood in 98% of the scenes. Hardly 5 second clips of International sportspersons who have made India prouder than ever before by winning the first ever medals in world competitions. one more strange thing about Phir Mile Sur is that its nearly 15 minutes long, who in todays world has 15 minutes of their day for watching crappy celebrities on TV, as if they aren’t on tv everywhere else!

If one were to think a 12 hour "Making" would help get people interested, they’d be utterly wrong. Even today, if Doordarshan were to play Mile Sur, it would draw a humongous crowd. Still not convinced? Take a look at the original and the newer version and judge for yourself.

Sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Surendranath, Phir Mile Sur just doesn’t work. It might be’new & improved’ according to ya all, but it just isn’t as magical as the original, I would still prefer watching Mile Sur, the original in "P00R QUALITY" on Doordarsan rather than watching a "High Quality" atrocity such as Phir Mile SUr,  like they say, old is gold.
