WRITING REVIEWS ON MOUTHSHUT

To be a ’’star’’ writer. By all qualities a star and not just ’’MS Star writer’’
This review is dedicated to my friend and fellow writer on mouthshut, lallupanju , who is the reason for my mind venturing into this topic and which has resulted in the review. This will never be an advice as I am not an expert in writing reviews, but only what I have to say on the topic. So just a talk.
Shall I start? Here goes nothing........
Hi guys. I was not here for two days. Wrote a review the other day and had to leave to my native place and so couldn’t even reply to the comments on the review. Sorry for that. But the next time I logged into mouthshut, there was a surprise waiting for me in the form of a very patriotic review by none other than our lallupanju. ’’Bharat mata. Yeh kya hai. Ladki tho pagal thi, par ab iski dhimak tho kuch kaam karne laga hai’’ . Please don’t mind my poor hindi, but l have only learnt it from the books.
I was really amazed at this complicated process of writing reviews. Lets us have a discussion, shall we?
So what is the main aim of writing reviews? Making others wise by letting them know our brilliant insights of the matter. Mouthshut says that the reviews must be informative and must contain no less than 150 words . The language of the review should not be abusive and the review must be based on honest and first hand experience .
In short simple words, Why cant all these guys read, rate and comment on my review so that I can become a star writer? I wanna be popular, and I want to be the centre of all attraction in mouthshut.’’ That is exactly why we write reviews. ’’kuch samach me aaya’’
My hindi really -----. Ooops! I really went this close to writing the word. But many people go over the limit and write the word, and then complain that the review was deleted by mouthshut , and also that they hadn’t written anything other than the topic. But listen guys, mouthshut insists that the review should have any abusive or offensive content. Why bother to break the rules?
A few days back, there was a review on mouthshut. This guy was proposing a girl in his review. The two of them are active members of mouthshut. I am not mentioning the names of both of them. Anyway, the review was deleted . Then in another review, the same author complained that his review was deleted for no reason at all, other than the fact that he proposed to the girl. But did you have to mention that you will protect her during the time she gives birth, in more abusive words than this? And you complain?
Listen new guys. We get so many reviews on whether mouthshut is justified in banning its members. That is not my topic and so, let me make this short. The review is better off without any abusive or offensive content .
Now about the contents of the review . All of you want to be popular . It is true. Though some people also have this very good intention of spreading a little bit of knowledge from what they know. For all those who want to be popular, their role model is lallupanju , who has been described in one of the recent reviews as the most famous member of mouthshut.
But guys, noticed a change in the way she writes her reviews? That is what happens when you run after too much popularity. But happy that she learnt from her mistake.
Too much of fun can also destroy a review. That is what happened to her. Although people liked her reviews, there was no solid content in the reviews to give her a good rating for the effort. But then, she has learnt from her mistakes and has come back with a bang. Now she puts more effort and has been successful in mixing fun and substance , and the result has been showing.
The right combination has to be found out by trial, error and correction method . The main readers of mouthshut are also here for having a good time. so the review should also not be too boring.
Choosing a good topic to write on is also important. First of all, you should have an idea on what to write for the review. Let me take three simple examples.
The first one is a review by one of the girls on the Mercedes , and she had no idea of the vehicle, but the technical specification. She just jotted it down and was stormed in the comments section. What happened here? She chose a topic that she was not sure of .
The second example I would like to give is also of lallupanju. There was a review by her on the serial ’’Jassi....... ’’ . Sorry, I don’t know that name. Anyway, what happened was there was already 100 plus reviews on the topic and there was nothing new for her to write. The reason for the failure of the review was not that her knowledge of the topic was limited, but the topic was not fresh enough to be presented.
The third example is of all the reviews on the Swift that failed miserably at the ’’Box office’’. There are just so many reviews on the vehicle that no one is interested to read the technical specifications and test drive results again.
Presentation is also very important. No one will go through a one para review that extends over on or two pages. They will only rate it. So the review must be neat enough to catch the eye. Then also, it is a good idea to give bold letters to the words that put together convey the message of the review. Then italics can also be used for conversations and stuff like that.
This has nothing to do with writing a review, but if you need popularity , you also need to read and comment on other people’s reviews. Take Rajeev, for example, he is a good writer, but he also reads and comments on a lot of reviews. That is the main reason why other people take his reviews. Once they have a look at the review, his writing magic does the trick.
Also please come up with an original review. Two days back there was a review which was accused with proof of being copied from the sify website. Why should you do that? New members get enough encouragement from all the senior members here on mouthshut. There is no need to come up with a extra-ordinary, yet copied review to get all the attention. You could end up filing in registration for a new id.
Last thing I want to mention is these two simple words ’’ make sense ’’ in the review. Don’t start writing about a cow, then say that the cow is tied to the tree and then describe the tree. Stick to the topic .
Guys, to say frankly, I also used to desire to be as popular as lallupanju. I wished I was the one to get so many comments. But then I am also happy for her, as she is my friend. But now, I realise that success cannot be achieved without effort .
I wish I can improve, and as time passes by, see all you guys improving too .
