Lyla's An Angel!

I read an ad in the local newspaper that they were going to make a new T.V. called Charlie’s Babes. There would be a contest to decide who the women would be. You had to send a picture with your entry form, and if you were one of the women who would be trying out for the roles, you would have to go on a mission, alone.

I decided to enter the contest, because, Charlie was much older now, and maybe he would like one mature woman, as his new Angel.

A few days later the phone rang, and I heard a voice say, ’’Go to your front door, and pick up the brown paper bag, that is on the step in front of your house.’’

I didn’t get a change to answer, so I did what I was told. When I brought the bag inside, there was a VCR tape, that had a note that said, ’’From Charlie, with love’’.

I played the tape and heard:

You have been given a mission. You must travel to a planet, called Birth, to explore it. While you are there I will meet an alien, and I will only be allow to go home if you teach the female how to cook!

I will call you in 30 minutes to see if you accept the mission. If you do, you can take one thing from home to take with you, to help you reach your goal. As soon as you finish reading this, burn this tape. Then go selected what you want to take will you, and keep it with you at all times.

I went to my bookshelf and decided to take Betty Crocker’s, ’’Cooking Basics : Learning to Cook with Confidence’’, cook book.

I didn’t know how long I would have to keep it with me, so I but it inside a fake lambs wool, shopping bag. It had a long strap, that I could use to put it around my neck, and over my chest, to my lower left hip.

How I Got There:

I was laying in bed a few nights later, holding on to the Cook Book, like I would if it was a Teddy Bear.

A moon beam surrounded me. I don’t know how it happened but I heard a strange voice say, ’’Beam her up, Scottie.’’

The next thing I remember was free falling and when I landed I was hanging on a tall white picket fence.

The fence surround the home, of two newly weds, called Mr. and Mrs Charlie Cousin.

We looked at each other, and we looked almost the same. The difference was that they both were taller than me. Both had very white skin, like an albino, because Birth was further from their Sun than Earth. Charlie had bright blue eyes, blue hair and was wearing a silver tight fitting space suit. Lulu had bright green eyes and hair and was wearing a gold space suit.

The had just got home from their honeymoon. here house was a bio-dome, that looked like the ones you see at the south pole.

They asked me what was inside the bag and I told them it was a cook book. When they heard I could cook they invited me to stay with them.

We went into the kitchen and their were boxes of unopened gifts. I found a kettle in one of the boxes, and put it on to make a cup of tea. We couldn’t find any tea, in fact they had no groceries at all.

We sat around their kitchen table, and I made a list of the food we had to buy, so I could begin to teach them to cook.

Deciding what they wanted to cook:

We looked through the table of contents of the cook book and decided what they need.

Buying the Food:

They took me to the market to buy some food. We went in their car that looked like a Volkswagen, Beatle, except it floated on air.

In the grocery store there was only a variety of spices, sugar, vinegar, oil, fresh vegetable, fruit, eggs and milk. There was no bread, cereal, pasta or meat, fish, seafood or poultry.

We bought the fresh eggs, cheese, butter, milk, fruit, corn oil, spices, sugar, vegi’s and vinegar.

What I did next:

They drove me to the river. I was wearing my hair in a pony tail, so I took off the ribbon and one pin. I made the pin into a hook and attached it to the ribbon. I found a long tree branch, and tie the ribbon to that. They I taught them how to fish! We caught 5 very flat fish.

There were some snails on the shore, so we collected as many as we could, and but all of this in the car. On the way home a sea gull flew into the grille of the car, so I reach out and grabbed it.

How They Ate Before I Got There:

They ate with their hands, and wipe their hands on their space suites.

I had to go back to the store to buy them chop sticks, and spoons. There were no forks and knives for sale. There were no napkins but there was some bolts of white material, so I bought a few yards of that.

What Did I Teach Them:

The first thing I taught them was how to brew coffee, because until I have a cup of coffee in the morning, I can’t think.

The next thing they learned was how to boil an egg and potatoes, because when I got married these were the two things I found the hardest to make.

We ate the eggs before we went out to look for some poetry, seafood and fish.

We washed the fish, put some oil in a baking pan, and baked it. While we were waiting for the fish to bake I showed them how to boil and mash potatoes, We made a mixed salad, and I showed them how to make a salad dressing from the oil and vinegar. We cut up some fruit for dessert. That was out first dinner together.

The next day I taught them how to fry an egg. We had them for breakfast.

I had saved some potatoes and the fish we didn’t eat, so for lunch the next day, I showed them how to cook green beans and boiled some eggs. We diced the potatoes, and sliced the hard cooked eggs, mashes the fish to make a fish salad. When the green beans were cooked, we drained them and put them into the refrigerator to cool down. I showed them how to wash some lettuce, until it was very clean, and we patted the leaves until they were dry. Then we put the lettuce leaves on 3 plates, and put a scoop of fish salad in the centre. Around that we put the eggs, potatoes and green beans. I showed them how to grate some blue cheese, to crumble over the salad. We put some salt, pepper and dill on the potatoes, some oregano on the green beans and poured a little oil and vinegar dressing over the beans and potatoes. Voila! We had just made a Cobb Salad.

For dinner that night I showed them how to grill the sea gull, and how to make a butter and fresh garlic sauce to cook the snails in. I went into their garden and picked some pansies and showed them how to make a syrup from the sugar. We dipped each pansy into the syrup and when it was coated we put it on a rack in the freezer, (this would be our dessert).

Each day I watched them eat the food and the run to the bathroom.

The last night when they came out of the bathroom I asked them why they kept going there, after we finished eating.

You don’t want to know what they told me!

Why was I Allowed To Go Home:

They didn’t like my cooking!

Getting home

Scottie brought a moon beam for me to use as a slide. I woke up the next morning, and couldn’t decide if this was a real experience or just a dream.
