I recently bought 3BHk and needed to do it up.Hence I started taking quotations from various interior decorators in the city. During this process I met many professionals and while talking to them I realized that some of them could not even justify their price, requested time line and understanding of my requirement.
So me and my wife thought of getting it done ourselves instead of falling in to their trap and suffer.so here is an account of our endeavor.
Downloaded designs for POP work, kitchen cabinets and bedroom wardrobes etc.from Internet and modified them a bit as per our needs.
Talked around for good POP workers and carpenters. Luckily found 1 experienced carpenter who has worked for big names like GIlma etc. He later introduced us to an experienced POP worker for doing our false ceiling and tv, display wall units.
We hired our Society Electrician for doing all the lighting work and also took assistance from society Plumber.Both turned out to be a great help in terms of sharing their professional tips from their years of experience.
After discussing our designs and material we got the individual quotation from them and to our surprise it was a straight cut of 50% from what we had received from interior decorators earlier. our carpenter told us that this is the price they get from the decorators on top of it those people add their profit margin hence huge quotations.
As far as materials arrangement was concerned, some of it I got and some they arranged and we all worked like a team. In between I was attending my office also.
Now thankfully all is done and we both are happy and satisfied seeing our adorned dream home which turned out to be the same as we had expected. In fact all the workers also felt good about their work and the efforts we all put into this project.
I shared this experience with one my colleagues who had a real tough last year when he got his house done from an interior decorator in the city.
I believe that every individual has a sense of beauty and each house reflects its owner’s personality so why leave our dream homes’ future in some decorators’ hands when we can get it done ourselves with some amount of help here and there.
Where there is a will there is a way.
