I dont seem to have any work nowadays since I first came onto mouthshut. Writing reviews left, right, centre, not worrying about poor fellows who read them!!
Anyway, one of the best times in anyones life is the time they spend at a hostel, especially if it is in their teens (No pun intended). I was in a hostel for about 4 yrs at a place about 800 kms away from home and it was something!!
The main idea of staying in a hostel is exposure. All the days we stay at home, we are heavily guarded by family, friends and people who go out for the first time are bound to face troubles as we suddenly become independent.
Forget about homesickness and look forward to staying at a hostel guys, I mean a hostel and not taking a room somewhere outside and staying with friends. Home is better a place than that! See, in the US, after the age of 15, when people start college, it is mandatory that they go out and stay on the campus. Indian education system being a bit too lenient, allows us to do otherwise and the number of colleges in each city allows us ample opportunity to choose!
Those of you who are going in to a hostel, look forward to being ragged. It is this part of the hostel life which builds relationships. The government nowadays anyway has become very strict in matters such as these, but a bit cant be avoided and I feel it shouldnt be avoided. Staying away from the family, it is with those guys that we spend all the time and ragging helps us get close and build a relationship.
One word of caution- Getting a vice is dead easy, letting it go isnt! Most of the smokers/ alcoholics pick up their habits from their hostel life and ruin their life. Try and stay away from these. Drugs, girls, see, everything is common as people from so many environments come and stay together. Know your limits.
I conduct quite a few interviews and one thing which we commonly are on the lookout for, especially for an outstation posting is a hostel experience as they take lesser time adjusting to the new environment and productivity goes that much up. For any other particular queries, if any of you is going into a hostel, send me a m2m and ill reply.
Look forward to that period of life, ull remember it fondly for the rest of your life. Live life kingsize!!
