I hope that all Msians will agree that the most constructive Leisure Activity would be writing/rating reviews in Mouthshut, so I would like to mention about the other options.
In this busy world where everyone is madly making money leisure is a word that may seem somewhat crazy to one but if you carefully look into it you should be able to appreciate how it helps to take a break and keep going with our life.
While I worked for a PSU(6 years) I used to have a 6 days week, set timing 8 AM to 5 PM that gave me a decent 4 hour to spend in the evening every day and a whole Sunday. which made upto(4x6)+12(considering 10AM to 10PM of Sunday).
Now I work in an Private job that ensures that I have no time left in the week days but weekends are always fully available(12+12). So taking this data one could say that on an average a salried individual can consider a free time of 24 Hours a Week. In case married you should be taking out a good 60% of this time which could be consumed by the shopping activities of your wife. Leaving you with a effective time to spend of 10 Hrs a week. Now let me think what are the options available.
Movies - Movies could be a very good option but now a days quality movies dont come every week and you need to wait for diwalis and new years for a good movie release. Unmindfully if we resolve to watch Once in a week can take out 4 hrs out of the leisure hour.
Television - Television do come to the rescue offering you with a variety of programs and news but wait . How much time do you think you can steal away from your wife/kids from their TV schedule 2-3 hours to the max that too when wife is busy cooking and you shoo off the kids .
Internet - This could be one avenue where you could spend time as if it were available abundantly. Browsing the web. writing reading comments in community sites. checking the inbox to see if any of your schooltime or friend from previous job had forwarded you any of those chain mails that claim to ruin your life if you do not forward to 10 people in the next 5 minutes.
outdoor Games? - Are you crazy in the busy world I cant remember when for the last time I would have worn a sporting attire and shoes to be playing any thing outside. It is really history now of having played a good cricket match or football outdoors.
I used to play Billiards earlier but I dont think I can have the time now to do that nor the kind of money and space now to have a pool-table in my home. My wife has found the way to wade her time when I am gone to office, She has started SUDOKU that comes in the Hindi and English newspaper that comes daily. chess/chinese checkers seems to be one good option that I would like to try out.
I also took up Photography but I usually shoot when I go out visiting some place and never try to experiment taking snaps nearby my house. I am sure anyone who would see me in that state would think I am a Jerk or someone who is trying to show off.
But with all these options I still feel I miss the time that I used to spend walking lonely in the sea shore near my house in Chennai.
