Controversy & its effects

Some people love controversy - it flows to them naturally. What is a Controversy?

A group of people believe in Entity X being very good. Now, this X could

be a place, it could be a cause, it  could be celeb or anything that qualifies as an Entity. Next, there is this person A that expresses his opinion that X is just plain rubbish(not that its not good or average or bad, but PLAIN RUBBISH). Vo-la, we’ve got a controversy.

Why do person A’s create such stuff?More often than not - publicity. At times its also personal vendatta or channelize their frustration at some general or specific problem plaguing their life.

How does person A’s take(or dig) affect Entity X?In almost all cases, X is always unscathed. The money X makes, or the seriousness X represents is hardly affected. Its always Y(a bunch of people that believe in Entity X being of good quality) that faces problems.

Who are Ys? Do I qualify as a Y?Hmmm. Thats a good question - actually 2 good questions. Ys are a group of people that are emotionally(or in other ways) close to X and feel bad or hurt when anyone displays X in poor light. The 2nd question is something that I am keeping for MS-ians & other experts on the issue to ponder upon.

How best to cope with A’s?

If you find yourself becoming a Y, feeling affected by a work/article/pod-cast/video by the media on your ’X’, first try and understand ’A’.

  1. Understand: Its highly possible that ’A’ is facing some issues and is using the media to vent out the frustration.

  2. Empathize with ’A’: Albeit you feel offended, try to put yourself in A’s shoes - s/he might be having some personal issue for which s/he is seeking solace by having a dig at ’X’.

  3. "Cooooooooolllll":  You know X is of good quality, let one ’A’ or a zillion A’s say whatever they want to. You should always remember the ’silent’ majority that comprises your Y group. Keep your cool & dont aggrevate the issue.

  4. Response: This is a tough one. Should you respond to A’s dig at X? Understand the situation and then make a decision. In most cases A’s are more inclined in getting money/publicity by having a dig at X - so check if you are falling prey to their cheap tactics. Like the adage ’Think twice before you speak’ - think more than just twice before you pen/type.

Conclusion:

I have seen many people falling into the Y group - witin our MS. I myself had fallen into it - almost. Thanks to fellow MS-ians I was able to cope with it. A few months back there was a huge controversy on AB by a MS-Star writer ’Kamini’. Lotsa MS-ians fell prey in the Y category.

But when the write-up is instead on another celeb I find all MS-ians falling into the A category - more than willing to hurt Y group people - all for some YouTube videos and some jokes. Beats me!

NOTE: There is a N category people that stays ’Neutral’. I am putting my efforts to inch ahead to reach this N group. Will I succeed - is something only time would answer.

Thanks for reading this write-up. Adios Amigo!
