So, you just bought a spanking new gizmo called a mobile phone..
With Bill and Warranty - the real McCoy..
And you opted for the Insurance that comes along with it ..
Good Boy - But did you read the fine print on the Insurance Certificate ? No ?
And then did you promptly go ahead loose that cell on a date with that girl you had your eye on for some time ? - YES ?
But you thought no problem, my cell phone is insured - and you promptly went to the Police Station and filed a complaint - Got an acknowledgement from them - went to your service provider and got the SIM blocked and replaced with a new one - and then went ahead and asked for a CLAIM from the Insurance company - Now sit back and get educated on how smart you are or think you are.
Bad NEWS !
Insurance Company will not compensate you for the lost phone. WHY ?
Because you didnt read the fine print silly !
That complaint you filed at the Police Station is not enough. All you got was a Certificate that stated it was lost or stolen or dissapeared.
What they need from you is an original Registered and Serial Numbered F.I.R. or a First Information Report within 24 hours of the loss clearly stating a forced theft of the insured cell phone, not a lost or misplaced or forgotten object ( in such cases it is due to your carelessness and negligence and hence not liable for a claim)
A Lost mobile is not eligible for a claim in absence of Actual or threatened Force
No Claim will be entertained if cell is lost from an unattended vehicle unless the vehicle was locked, the handset was securely placed out of sight, and the vehicle had been forcibly entered into. These details must be clearly mentioned on the F.I.R. and will be corroborated with that particular Police Station by the Insurance Company and only on due confirmation and verification will the precious compensation be thought about.
If you have lost it in a public transport, like a train or a bus, or a taxi or an autorickshaw, the claim will not be entertained unless the mobile phone was forcibly snatched or physically stolen from you with threatened force (Whatever that means)
An original official certification from the service provider about the missing SIM card duly blocked and replaced within 24 hours of the loss.
The original Bill of purchase with the original Insurance certificate ( there goes your last strand of hope )
And GOD help you if your courier or Registered Post fellow has lost your documents in transit. Yes, the National Insurance Company that handles these claims needs all the documents in ORIGINAL and is based in DELHI - Address : Division No. XVII 12 Community Centre, 1st and 2nd Floor, East Of Kailash, NEW DELHI-110065 Tel : 91-22-2628-0052
Oh yes, and you need to immediately inform them of your loss and ask for a claim form ( Which in all probability they will be out of stock and will never send )
In the first place dont leave your cell phone unattended-in short dont loose it - and if you do, then just say Bye Bye to it and go and buy a new one.
And if you are like me, then go ahead and submit all the relevant documents and expect a regret letter from the Insurance Company with some technical reason or the other to refute the claim.
All the best
