What is p2p

What do you call a world without a horizon? A world where no constraint can limit your ability? We have a name for it- p2p. Imagine a world where information is decentralised, and available to everyone. Imagine intellectual communism at its zenith, creating that alternate world for us where anything seems possible. On a more technical note, imagine a technology that enables you to reach across the network into my file system, or that reflects a change in my document directly into a cell of your spreadsheet. Seems hypothetical? Think again. Welcome to the world of Peer to Peer Technology—a world where everyone cares… because everyone shares! Peer to Peer can be defined as the power of ordinary PCs transformed into an extraordinary synergy of computers and networks utilizing idle CPU power, bandwidth, storage to perform functions like file sharing, instant messaging and many more.

This technology will not just ‘affect’ your life; it will CHANGE your life for good! We essentially are rallying for the elimination of barriers, for the creation of a brave new world of modern computing. Let’s take case scenario#1: Grandma Nin is in Europe. To give you a bit of dirt on her, she is techno-phobic, right to the point where she will use her PC only if it is a life-threatening situation. But, heck… she is driven to the point where she absolutely needs technology. She’s dying to show her friends how cute Grandson Chin looks without clothes. She does have these images in her hard drive, but there is no one to mail them to her. So what does she do? Simple. With p2p, she reaches into her hard drive herself… and there, Chin is being passed out in his very first, and unfortunately permanent, birthday suit. Most networks today are based on the client - server model, where the servers provide services to a large number of clients. Peer-to-peer technology allows any machine to become a server or a client by itself and share data or files with any other machine on the network. It eliminates the notion of centralised servers, though there are hybrid models which use them mainly for maintaining some degree of control and put key tasks in the hands of the users, thereby solving problems in networking, information management, communal work and communication, community-building and file sharing.

Our p2p technology will mock current networks mercilessly; it will laugh them out of existence. This is one case where our technology has actually matched and surpassed our evolution by a few million light years. P2P is not just a hyped brand name, or a wayside fancy you should take to… it is practical, reliable, and the next big bang in our cosmic cyberspace. Sit back and surge headlong into the future—it is what you were born to do.
