Here are two ends of the world.
I faced the exact opposite where an auto driver ran away
with my belongings on the 17th of September.
I was traveling back home after work(Infantry road) at
around 8 pm, from Bannarghatta(Shopper’s stop)
I crossed the road and hailed a few auto’s and they had their
usual scene of extra and one and a half and I never comply.
Finally an auto came up, with an electronic meter and agreed
to take me home.
I was really tired and thought I’d grab a bite at Fanoos on
the way back home, I stopped the auto, got down to buy a roll when I cam back
there was no sign of him.
He took off with all my belongings.
Contents in the auto being:
A
beige Babila handbag with
-
A Black wallet. Rs 300 and odd, ICICI Bank Debit
Card, Citibank Credit card, Canara Bank debit cards and a couple of other store
loyalty cards.
-
Sony Ericsson K550i – Hutch Sim( worth about Rs
10, 000)
-
Nokia 6100- Hutch Hyderabad Sim( worth about Rs. 4, 000)
-
Some make up.(about Rs. 400)
A
black trolley bag with 4 folders containing office material, a CD with
data on it, a DVD of Happy Gilmore, and most importantly my diary. A
Shopper’s Stop plastic bag with a brand new Baggit Black Handbag and a
Maybelline Eye pencil.(Rs 1100)
I raised a hue around the area a couple of passer bys did
help me block my cards and told me to go to the police station.
I lodged a complaint at the Ashoknagar Police Station with
Mr. Venkatesh on duty, but since I had no clue about the auto number they said
they will try, I also gave them the IMEI number of the Sony K500i phone.
They said that they will let me know if anything turns up.
I know while your reading this your probably thinking how
thoughtless and imprudent I am and I do agree,
it was extremely foolish of me to actually leave my bag in the auto, but
think on a day where you are so beat, sometimes I just don’t think.
By writing all I want to do is to make you aware that even
by mistake DO NOT leave anything behind, look back twice when you get off the auto,
as you never know you might end up paying 20, 000 or more!
And I stay forever in the hope that if one day you are
traveling in an auto with an electronic meter, and the auto driver is using a
K550i or an old looking 6100 phone as mentioned do call me with the details of
the auto license plate.

I have lived in Bangalore all my life and I was in the
process of moving to Hyderabad on work, I guess this incident has strengthens
that need, if not for anything but for more pleasant autos.
